Mr. Chairman, Colleague Ministers,
CEO, Ghana Chamber of Mines, Members of the National Steering Committee, Distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen,
It is a pleasure for me to be part of the launch of the 2014 Ghana’s EITI Report for the Mininig and the Oil and Gas Sector. Mr. Chairman, in line with government’s policy to ensure transparency in the management of petroleum resources, the Ministry roped into the Ghana’s Extractive Transparency Initiative (GHEITI) process which was operational in the mining sector right from the onset of the discovery of oil and gas in Ghana.

The attention of the national Multi-stakeholder Group (MSG) of the Ghana Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (GHEITI) has been drawn to certain media reports on some of the findings in its 2014 reconciliation report on the petroleum sector, which in the view of the MSG constitute a misrepresentation of the facts as contained in the report.

ENI-Ghana has accepted to join the global transparency standard EITI. It joins about 30 companies in Ghana that have committed to improved transparency of government revenues from the extraction of natural resources. By joining the EITI, ENI is now committing to full transparency of extractive revenues from extraction of its oil, gas and mineral resources. They are also pledging to work together with business and civil society organizations to ensure an informed debate about how its natural resources are being managed.
