Objectives

The conference will thus seek to:

• Create a platform to share country experiences and identify gaps and opportunities in maximizing benefits from the extractive sector.
• Promote the benefit of EITI to inspire participation of resource rich countries.
• Create a platform to learn about best practices in the management and utilization of resource wealth.
• Promote inter-regional linkages among people and organizations working on similar issues with the intention of having a regional EITI interface that feeds into the international body.

Theme
The theme for the conference shall be as followed. “Natural Resource Governance; Setting Standards with EITI”

Venue and date
The Conference would be held at La Palm Royal Beach Hotel, Accra-Ghana, in September 2012.

Expected Participants
The GHEITI Regional Conference is targeted at inviting representatives from the presidency, MDAs, Private sector- oil and gas/mining companies, Civil Society Organizations (CSO’s), Members of Parliament, Academia, Traditional Authorities and members of the GHEITI NSC/GHEITI Secretariat, all from Ghana. Other representatives from twenty two (22) African countries are expected to be at the conference.  In all, 54 representatives from eighteen different international communities would be represented at the conference. Other representatives would come from the EITI International Secretariat and resource persons.
