Tullow Optimistic of Meeting Expectation of Ghanaian
THE President of Tullow. Oil Ghana Limited, Mr Dai Jones, has said that his company is aware of the high expectations of 'Ghanaians from the oil activities which 'begin next year.
He said Tullow oil is ready to deliver on its promise, adding, "Ghana must be a better place for having discovered oil.
"The expectations are huge and as the lead operator of the Jubilee Field, we consider ourselves the ones who will deliver on the expectations of stakeholders", Mr Jones, who is also the General Manager of Tullow Oil (International), expressed this optimism yesterday at the inaugural ceremony for final year students from the Regional Maritime University (RMU) who are on practical training on board M V. Pacific Aurora.
The training programme, which is being supported by SWIRE PACIFIC, an offshore marine operator and Tullow Oil, involves 70 -final year students from the engineering and Nautical Departments of the RMU.
The engagement with all stakeholders, Mr. Jones stressed is important as the company draws its first oil next year.
One of such expectations that would be met, he said, was to ensure that Ghanaians fully participated in the industry at levels of operations.
The president of Tullow Oil said that the company, in partnership with the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) will train 14 people in technical programmes in the United Kingdom to equip them with technical
and managerial skills to be industry leaders.
The Takoradi Polytechnic, he said, will also be assisted to produce employable manpower.
"Today's programme signals another dimension of our partnership effort. We and our partners are providing opportunities for young Ghanaians to acquire the practical training to equip them, add value to their academic programmes and make them a world class resources" Mr Jones added.
The Deputy Western Regional Minister, Ms Betty Bosumtwi-Sam, appealed to the sponsors to ensure that the young graduates were given placements in the industry.
The General.N1anager for SWIRE PACIFIC, Mr Dominic Perret, said the students had excelled in the progamme and gave the assurance of their future employment.
